This book is a scan of a 1984 dissertation on mating behavior among an unusual species of pigeon that breeds in colonies. The author researched mate choice, nest building, and other mating behaviors in a captive colony of Nicobar pigeons (Caloenas nicobarica) at the Lincoln Park Zoological Gardens in Chicago from 1980 to 1982. Her research data are supplemented by information from preceding and subsequent years. In addition, this dissertation contains a literature review of previous work on the Nicobar pigeon, an ethogram consisting of a list of Nicobar pigeon behaviors and their description, and breeding histories for all individuals who had ever reproduced. The 2012 printing by Nicobar Press contains a brief update of relevant literature published after 1983. Nicobar Press author Farrah Rochon is a finalist in the Romance Writers of America's RITA awards.
Her novel I'll Catch You (Kimani Romance, 2011) is a finalist for the romance world's most prestigious award in the Contemporary Series Romance category. Winners will be announced at the RWA National Meeting in Anaheim, California, on 28 July 2012. Find descriptions and buying links under "Publications." In the works for release in late 2012 or early 2013 is a romantic suspense novel tentatively called Deadline. We welcome Farrah Rochon to the Nicobar Press family. In today's market, authors have many choices for getting their work to the public. In the past, I have followed conventional methods, publishing my stories in other people's magazines and my books in other people's publishing companies.
Self-publishing, though, has become a viable option for authors as a result of publish-on-demand technology (POD) and the simplicity of selling e-books through major online retailers. I want to try out this new technology while continuing to publish through traditional means. This Website features stories and books that I have self-published under my own imprint, Nicobar Press. Some of my friends may also want to self-publish under my imprint, so you may one day see works here by people other than me. I have uploaded my first work, a science fiction novella called "The Hunt." In the next couple of months, expect to see my dissertation and a previously unpublished fantasy novel go up as well. Thanks for stopping by and checking out my work. |
